Health Professions Scholarships

Applications are now available for The Memorial Health Professions Scholarships (Wiley, Hunt, Blackburn, and Obert) and the Thomas E. Bailey Memorial Scholarship. 

Bedford County residents who are attending or plan to attend an accredited educational institution in pursuit of a career in the field of health care are encouraged to apply.

Applications must be submitted by March 31, 2018.  Learn more.​

Multiphasic Blood Screening

The screenings involve a series of 28 tests, including cholesterol and triglycerides. Patients must fast for 12 hours and consume no alcohol for 24 hours prior to screening.

Cost is $25 for blood screening and $3 for urinalysis. Other tests available include TSH to check thyroid function for an additional $5, A1C to test for diabetic compliance for $5, and PSA for prostate cancer for $10.​ For an additional $3, test results can be sent to the patient.

Stroke Care

UPMC Bedford Memorial has earned Advanced Disease-Specific Care Certification for Acute Stroke Ready Hospital from The Joint Commission and the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association. The certification recognizes hospitals equipped to treat stroke patients with timely, evidence-based care prior to transferring them to a Primary or Comprehensive Stroke Center.

UPMC Bedford Memorial underwent a rigorous onsite review to assess its compliance with the Joint Commission’s Advanced Disease-Specific Care certification ​requirements, including:

  • A dedicated stroke-focused program
  • Staffing by qualified medical professionals trained in stroke care
  • Collaboration with local emergency management agencies
  • 24/7 ability to perform rapid diagnostic and laboratory testing
  • Ability to administer intravenous clot-busting medications to eligible patients
  • Availability of telemedicine technology
