Brian Durniok was appointed president of UPMC Northwest in February 2017. Durniok has served as vice president of human resources at both UPMC Hamot and UPMC Northwest and as vice president of operations at UPMC Northwest since 2013.  He will continue as vice president of human resources for UPMC Hamot, UPMC Northwest and UPMC Chautauqua WCA.

At UPMC Northwest and UPMC Hamot, Durniok was responsible for daily human resources activities, including employee relations, employee safety and wellness services, talent acquisition, compensation, and regulatory compliance. As vice president of operations at UPMC Northwest, he was responsible for operational oversight for the hospital, including nursing, the medical staff and community outreach.

Durniok was instrumental in helping to establish UPMC Northwest’s Tele-Medicine service line—the highest volume Teleconsult Center across the UPMC network—bringing cutting-edge care to patients in the community and unparalleled access to expert specialty care while avoiding long-distance travel and related time and expenses.  His efforts helped UPMC Northwest receive Center of Excellence designation for low-dose CT lung screening. He has most recently been directing the $4 million purchasing and installation of new MRI and CT scanners.

Durniok has more than 21 years of extensive experience in the human resources field, most of which was within the health care system. In 1995, he joined UPMC Horizon as director of human resources. In 2007, he was appointed vice president of human resources. He was named vice president of human resources for UPMC Hamot and its affiliates in 2013, assuming both human resources and operations responsibilities at UPMC Northwest in 2014. 

Durniok graduated from Thiel College in 1984 with a bachelor’s degree in business. He received a master’s degree in business administration from Baker College in 2001.
