Fetal Diagnosis and Treatment Centers

The Fetal Diagnosis and Treatment Centers are located at UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital in partnership with UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh.

As a full-service women's hospital — one where nearly 10,000 births and 85,000 ultrasound procedures take place yearly — UPMC Magee is well suited for a robust fetal therapy program.

The United States Department of Health and Human Services has designated Magee as a National Center of Excellence in Women's Health. The hospital's Level III neonatal intensive care unit is the largest in Pennsylvania, and treats more than 1,500 seriously or critically ill newborns annually.

This expertise in women’s health and pregnancy is the foundation of Magee’s Fetal and Diagnosis and Treatment center and its continuum of care, from evaluation to treatment of fetal abnormalities.

The robustness of the program comes from the ability to involve multiple fields of medicine in a coordinated effort.

When a problem is found, we can quickly pull together an interdisciplinary team with pediatric specialists and others to establish a coordinated treatment plan.

Problems can be addressed earlier, while the fetus is still in the womb, to promote healthier newborns who need fewer medical treatments after birth.
