UPMC McKeesport Internal Medicine Residency Program
Dually accredited by the ACGME / AOA for both allopathic and osteopathic medical residents, our residency programs are sponsored by the University Of Pittsburgh Medical Center Medical Education Programs (UPMCMEP).
As the UPMC McKeesport board, administrative, graduate medical education, medical, and nursing leadership address the privilege of training physicians, they recognize that excellence in patient care is a prerequisite for excellence in graduate medical education.
At UPMC McKeesport, we address the 6 GME competencies by the Hospital Board, administrative, medical staff and nursing:
- Patient care
- Medical knowledge
- Interpersonal communications
- Practice-based learning and improvement
- Systems-based practice
- In addition we adopted our own 7th competency, balance between professional and personal lives. A typical resident works an average of 60 hours per week. We promote camaraderie between residents and faculty and create a “big family” supportive environment.
Our residents leave to pursue fellowship positions, general practice, or Hospitalist positions. The latter has been very popular recently and reflects a nationwide trend.
