Graduate Medical Education
UPMC Mercy has been a teaching hospital almost from its beginning. Today, UPMC Mercy is a major academic medical center. UPMC Mercy sponsors residency programs in general surgery, internal medicine, podiatry, transitional year, and participates in the jointly-sponsored programs in emergency medicine and physical medicine and rehabilitation. Additionally, the hospital is a major teaching site of UPMC’s residencies in radiology, anesthesiology, ophthalmology, and otolaryngology.
The Office of Medical Education and Research (OMER) provides administrative support to all residency programs, coordinates all medical student clerkships, coordinates continuing medical education, and provides administrative support for research and sponsored projects.
