Inpatient Oncology Services
The UPMC Mercy Inpatient Oncology Unit has experts in almost every field of cancer care. Whether a patient is having chemotherapy or is recovering from surgery, the UPMC Mercy team of physicians, nurses, rehabilitation therapists, and registered dietitians provides an individualized treatment plan. Experienced oncology nurses administer chemotherapy treatments in patient care modules throughout the unit. Patients with lowered resistance from chemotherapy side effects stay in our custom-designed airflow rooms, which circulate micro-filtered air and protect the patient from harmful organisms.
Patients also recover from general and oncological surgery in the Inpatient Oncology Unit. Private and semi-private rooms are available. A family lounge offers a quiet space to spend time with visitors, to read, or attend classes on what to expect upon returning home.
Support services are available and include help with home care arrangements, nutritional guidelines, spiritual growth, and insurance questions.
Inpatient radiation oncology services are provided by Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC,
or UPMC Shadyside, based on the patient’s diagnosis.
