UPMC Mercy Trauma Center

UPMC Mercy is Western Pennsylvania’s only hospital with a combined Level I Regional Resource Trauma Center and Comprehensive Burn Center under one roof — and the area’s only Trauma in Pregnancy Center.

2017 marks the 30th anniversary of the UPMC Mercy’s Trauma Center.

Traumatic injuries can occur in seconds — forever changing the lives of those who are hurt and their families. Through expert, comprehensive, and innovative treatment, the UPMC Trauma Center strives to deliver the best possible immediate and extended care for trauma patients.

What UPMC Mercy Provides

UPMC Mercy’s Level I Trauma Center has the medical expertise and resources to provide total care for every aspect of a traumatic injury — from prevention through rehabilitation. We have immediate access to all hospital specialties, subspecialties, and facilities that are critical to quality trauma care.

Every year, UPMC Mercy Trauma Center treats thousands of patients of all ages from throughout the tri-state region. Our 24/7 team of specialists includes:

  • Around-the-clock attending trauma surgeons qualified to treat adults who sustain multiple injuries (such as trauma and burn) or whose complex injuries affect multiple systems of the body.
  • 24-hour in-house attending obstetricians and a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit — the highest level possible — for the specialized treatment of trauma during pregnancy.
  • Surgical critical care doctors with the advanced knowledge and skills to care for patients with acute and life-threatening conditions.
  • A full complement of highly trained nurses, technicians, therapists, counselors, and other health care professionals.

Specialized Trauma Services

We also seek to make a difference through our ongoing services and educational outreach, linking our patients and their families to a strong and affirming network of support, and engaging the community in injury prevention.

Through our partnerships with clinicians, educators, and researchers at UPMC and the University of Pittsburgh, we are helping to create new advancements in the treatment and recovery of trauma patients.
