About Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic

Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic is a national leader in the treatment of mental health and addictive disorders. As part of UPMC, Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic provides a comprehensive range of behavioral health services and is shaping tomorrow’s behavioral health care through clinical innovation, research, education, and training.

Considered one of the nation’s foremost academic-based psychiatric care facilities, Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic is consistently ranked as one of the best psychiatric hospitals in America by U.S. News & World Report. Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic houses the Department of Psychiatry of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and is dedicated to providing behavioral health professionals with state-of-the-art training and assistance.

To expand its mission, UPMC developed the UPMC Behavioral Health service line, which includes the inpatient and ambulatory behavioral health services of Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic, UPMC McKeesport, UPMC Mercy, and UPMC Northwest, along with the Consultation and Liaison Service that provides behavioral health consultation to many other UPMC hospitals. In addition, Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic oversees the management of the behavioral health services at Beaver Medical Center and benefits from many collaborative arrangements with providers, schools, and nursing homes throughout the region.

By establishing and continually expanding the UPMC Behavioral Health network, Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic extends the expertise and commitment of its premier services across the region and beyond.
