
UPMC Health Plan Celebrates National Customer Service Week
Pittsburgh, Pa., (October 23, 2003) No matter what they sell, all successful businesses have one thing in common satisfied customers.
In recognition of that fact, corporations around the country celebrated National Customer Service Week during the week of October 6. At UPMC Health Plan, the theme for the week was "Service with a Smile."
During the week, UPMC Health Plan employees had the opportunity to win prizes by participating in company-wide activities that pertained to customer service.
Health Plan employees were able to nominate coworkers who exhibited outstanding customer service by consistently going above and beyond their daily job responsibilities. Health Plan staff from all departmentspharmacy, information services, enrollment, finance, communications, call centers, reimbursement and claims, sales and marketing, and member and provider serviceswere recognized for their excellent customer service.
Employees were also invited to enter an essay contest to describe the importance of providing excellent customer service. Winners were given UPMC windbreakers as prizes.
To reinforce the "Service with a Smile" theme, UPMC Health Plan management treated employees to Eat n' Park Smiley Cookies as well as free ice cream. The treats were management's way of thanking employees for providing a consistently high level of service to their customers throughout the year.
