UPMC Health Plan Names New Vice President of Sales and Marketing
PITTSBURGH (July 22, 2004) UPMC Health Plan has named Ronald J. Vance, a longtime executive with Cigna Healthcare in Texas and Florida, as its new Vice President of Sales and Marketing.
Vance assumed the position in July 2004, following an extensive nationwide search. Prior to coming to UPMC Health Plan, Vance served as vice president of sales for Cigna Healthcare in the Houston, South Texas, and Louisiana areas.
"We are pleased to be able to add someone with Ron Vance's experience and expertise to our UPMC Health Plan sales and marketing team," said Diane P. Holder, President of UPMC Health Plan. "He comes to us with a solid reputation for opening new markets and increasing market penetration in existing regions."
Vance worked for Cigna for 15 years, holding sales management positions in Charleston, S.C., as well as in Jacksonville, Tampa, and St. Petersburg, Fla.
"What really drew me to this position was the reputation of UPMC in the market," said Vance. "We're in a unique position being both the provider and the health plan to really have an impact on the future of health care. We can both improve the quality of health care and make it more affordable."
Vance began his insurance career in Pittsburgh in 1968 with Equitable Life. His sales experience includes a full range of managed care products as well as traditional indemnity and dental products for group markets of all sizes. He also has in-depth knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, workers' compensation, prepaid dental plans, life, and LTD plans.
Vance's appointment at UPMC Health Plan is a homecoming of sorts. He was born in Pittsburgh and graduated from Duquesne University in 1967, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and philosophy. He also has a B.A. in theology from Saint Leo University in Florida.
