
UPMC Names New Chief Financial Officer
PITTSBURGH, March 23, 2004 Jeffrey Romoff, president of UPMC, announced today the appointment of Robert A. DeMichiei as chief financial officer of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) effective May 3. Mr. DeMichiei will oversee the financial activities of the integrated health care delivery system and will serve as a member of the senior executive team.
Mr. DeMichiei has served in various executive finance roles with General Electric Company (GE) for the past seven years. He is currently manager of finance, Global Business Development and Integration for GE Energy, Marietta, Ga. He also was the chief financial officer for GE Transportation Systems' Global Service Operations.
Prior to his tenure at GE, Mr. DeMichiei served with Price Waterhouse in Pittsburgh for 10 years. He is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and a certified public accountant.
UPMC is the largest integrated health care delivery system in Pennsylvania and one of the leading nonprofit medical centers in the country. It is a $5 billion, 37,000-employee organization that spans the whole spectrum of health care delivery with its network of 19 tertiary, specialty and community hospitals and 400 outpatient sites and doctors offices. Closely aligned with the University of Pittsburgh Schools of the Health Sciences, it is one of the country's top academic medical centers.
Mr. DeMichiei, a Pittsburgh native, will be moving back to his hometown with his wife and four children.
