In collaboration with its academic partner, the University of Pittsburgh Schools of the Health Sciences, UPMC has advanced the quality and efficiency of health care and developed internationally renowned programs in transplantation, cancer, neurosurgery, psychiatry, orthopaedics, and sports medicine, among others.
UPMC is commercializing its medical and technological expertise by nurturing new companies, developing strategic business relationships with some of the world's leading corporations, and expanding clinical services and state-of-the art medical expertise into international markets, including Italy, Ireland, the United Kingdom, and Qatar. UPMC has invested significantly in information technology to link and integrate electronic medical records across multiple hospitals and care settings and has invested in research to seed new fields like regenerative medicine and biosecurity.
UPMC's stature as one of the nation's outstanding medical centers is a source of civic pride. The region benefits from UPMC's many charitable contributions and its broad array of community-based programs to eliminate health disparities in underserved populations. UPMC also has made a major commitment to education through the Pittsburgh Promise, which was designed to prepare all children to achieve academic excellence and strength of character so that they have the opportunity to succeed in all aspects of life.
A passion for innovation lies at the heart of UPMC's success. UPMC's unique strategy of combining clinical and research excellence with business-like discipline translates into excellent patient care for both western Pennsylvanians and the global community.
