Why: Leadership training events such as the Student Athlete Leadership Academy allow young adults to learn skills that can help them to be successful leaders and get the most from themselves and those around them.
The participating student athletes were chosen by their athletic directors and coaches as stand-out leaders in their schools and communities. The goal of the academy is to bring together these student athletes and help them to learn the importance of being strong leaders through workshops that will teach them how to empower their peers, create positive cultures throughout their high schools, and succeed in sports and life.
The Student Leadership Academy is endorsed by the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League and the Pittsburgh Public Schools. The initiative is coordinated by Dr. Kimball.
