Former Carolina Panther Chris Draft to Tour the Hillman Cancer Center, Promoting Lung Cancer Awareness, Care and Research

WHAT: Former Carolina Panther linebacker Chris Draft, founder of The Chris Draft Family Foundation, will tour The Hillman Cancer Center, meeting with lung cancer researchers, doctors and patients, to promote lung cancer awareness, care and research.

WHO:
• Chris Draft, former Carolina Panthers linebacker and founder of the Chris Draft Family Foundation
• Jill Siegfried, Ph.D., co-director of the Lung Cancer and Thoracic Malignancies Program at the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute
• Daniel Petro, M.D., medical oncologist with UPMC CancerCenter
• Christine Keffer, lung cancer patient at the Hillman Cancer Center

WHEN: 1 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012

WHERE: Ground floor of the Hillman Cancer Center, 5115 Centre Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15232

WHY: Chris Draft lost his wife to lung cancer in December 2011. Since then, Mr. Draft launched Team Draft, an initiative of the Chris Draft Family Foundation, and one of its missions is to promote awareness and charitable support of lung cancer research.

In the last six months, Mr. Draft has visited nearly 50 cancer centers across the country and is working to develop partnerships with centers in Washington D.C., Cleveland, Atlanta, Colorado, California and dozens more. He believes researchers have made great advances in lung cancer research, but that the message hasn’t reached the public. Mr. Draft hopes to foster hope among lung cancer patients, raise awareness about the importance of lung cancer research, and increase charitable giving to support these efforts.

Media interested in attending the tour should contact Courtney McCrimmon by noon on Thursday by calling 412-715-8894 or emailing mccrimmoncp@upmc.edu.
