First Hillman Cancer Center Wellness Fair to Feature Yoga, Nutrition, Music

WHAT: Providers of yoga, massage, acupuncture, nutrition, mindfulness, music, art therapy and many more will be featured at the inaugural Integrative Cancer Wellness Fair. This unique program is sponsored by a grant from the Shadyside Hospital Foundation and organized by Lanie Francis, M.D., a medical oncologist at the Hillman Cancer Center.

WHO: Patients, caregivers and staff

WHEN: 2 to 6 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 23

WHERE: Herberman Conference Center,  2nd floor, UPMC Cancer Pavilion, UPMC Shadyside, 5150 Center Ave., Pittsburgh, Pa., 15232

WHY: Cancer patients often have difficulty coordinating and navigating the complexities of cancer diagnosis and treatment. As an oncologist and hematologist, Dr. Francis believes in treating the whole patient - body and spirit - and finding ways for beauty, wellness, mindfulness and self-care to influence and improve the cancer experience. The wellness fair provides an opportunity for patients to explore some of the services that can help them cope and thrive.

Groups participating in the event include Yoga Hive, Schoolhouse Yoga, BYS Yoga, Pittsburgh Center for Complementary Health and Healing, La Vida Massage, Bloom Organic Skin Care, Pillar Wellness, Music for Life, the Wellness Chef, UPMC CancerCenter Nutrition Services, UPMC Center for Integrative Medicine, Reiki Hands Open Hearts, Pittsburgh Nutrition Counseling, Aryuvedic Center of Pittsburgh, and Nugo Nutrition.
