WHY: According to a recent Community Health Needs Assessment, diabetes is the sixth-leading cause of mortality in Bedford County. Diabetes also is associated with other leading causes of death, including heart disease, and is a major risk factor for obesity, which can be prevented through increased physical activity and a healthy diet.

UPMC Bedford has made this chronic disease a priority health issue and is focused on increasing community participation in diabetes education, prevention and management programs offered through the hospital.
