
UPMC CancerCenter, UPCI to Honor Late Founder Dr. Ronald Herberman
WHAT: The University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute (UPCI), partner with UPMC CancerCenter, will host a tribute to the late Ronald Herberman, M.D. Dr. Herberman was the founding director of UPCI and the UPMC CancerCenter and a prominent researcher in the field of cancer immunotherapy. He died in June at age 72.
WHO: Speakers will include:
- Nancy E. Davidson, M.D., director, UPCI and UPMC CancerCenter and Hillman Professor of Oncology
- Stanley Marks, M.D., chairman, UPMC CancerCenter, clinical professor of medicine, University of Pittsburgh
- Robert L. Ferris, M.D., Ph.D., F.A.C.S., UPMC Chair in Advanced Oncologic Head and Neck Surgery and professor of otolaryngology, immunology and radiation oncology, University of Pittsburgh
WHEN: 4 to 6 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 7, with remarks followed by a reception.
WHERE: Herberman Conference Center, 2nd floor, UPMC Cancer Pavilion, 5150 Centre Ave., Shadyside.
WHY: Under Dr. Herberman’s leadership, UPCI was designated a comprehensive cancer center by the National Institutes of Health, setting the groundwork for UPMC CancerCenter’s future as one of the largest integrated clinical cancer care networks in the country. To honor Dr. Herberman’s legacy, a lectureship will be established in his memory to be delivered each year during the annual UPCI Scientific Retreat.
The Dec. 7 tribute will follow an all-day meeting on Advances in Cancer Therapy that is being sponsored by the Society for Immunotherapy in Cancer (SITC). Dr. Herberman was a past president and board member of SITC
