UPMC East to Offer “Advances in Diabetes Management and General Health Screening” Program

will hold a free diabetes screening and management program. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about diabetes and will be able to participate in a general health screening that includes blood pressure, body mass index, glucose, total cholesterol, HDL and LDL cholesterol, and triglycerides. The event is open to the public.
WHO: Hussain Mahmud, M.D., of UPMC’s Endocrinology and Diabetes Center, will discuss general diabetes information and diabetes management tips during a lecture presentation. Health coaches will also be available to review screening results.

WHY: According to the American Diabetes Association, type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes. Millions of Americans have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, and many more are unaware they are at high risk. Dr. Mahmud will discuss diabetes prevention, insulin resistance, pre-diabetes, and progression to type 2 diabetes, and treatment options for diabetes.
Participation in the general screening is not limited to people with diabetes. Screening appointments are limited and will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. To make a screening appointment, call 866-737-0910.
