Paralympic Gold Medalist Part of Wheelchair Wash Event at UPMC Mercy/Rehabilitation Institute

 
WHAT: 4th Annual Wheelchair Wash & Tune Up
 
WHO: Anyone regularly using a wheelchair is invited to the event hosted by UPMC Mercy and the UPMC Rehabilitation Institute Spinal Cord Injury Peer Support Group. The group is headed by Bryan McCormick, National Spinal Cord Association of Pittsburgh, and Lee Tempest, University of Pittsburgh Model Center for Spinal Cord Injury.
 
WHEN: 4-7 p.m., Thursday, June 5, 2014
 
WHERE: Stevenson Street parking lot, patio and Clark Auditorium, on the west side of UPMC Mercy
 
WHY:
 
  • Dan McCoy, member of the gold-medal USA team in the 2014 Paralympics sled-hockey competition, has been in attendance at previous Wash & Tune Ups and will attend as a special guest Thursday.
  • Mercy and Rehabilitation Institute staff plus volunteers will wash and shine both manual and power wheelchairs, and local vendors will complete some minor repairs and chair evaluations at no cost.
  • The SCI Peer Support Group allows people with spinal cord injuries to connect, share, and rejuvenate.
