Joseph E. Losee, MD

Dr. Losee's clinical interests focus on children born with congenital deformities, including clefting and craniofacial anomalies.  His basic science research is focused on bone and suture regulation, as well as skull defects in infants.  Dr. Losee also leads the multidisciplinary team of surgeons and physicians for the Facial Transplantation Program. 

Dr. Losee serves on the board of directors of four national societies in academic plastic surgery, including the American Society of Plastic Surgery, the Association of Academic Chairmen in Plastic Surgery and the Society for Reconstructive Plastic Surgery. He edited Comprehensive Cleft Care, the authoritative text on cleft surgery, and has authored more than 70 peer-reviewed articles and 20 book chapters.

Prior to joining UPMC, Dr. Losee was director of the Strong Center for Craniofacial Anomalies at the University of Rochester and Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, N.Y. He received his medical degree at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, where he also completed a combined residency in general surgery and plastic surgery. Following his residency, he completed a fellowship in pediatric plastic and craniofacial surgery at the University of Pennsylvania and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
