UPMC Presbyterian Receives 2000 Consumer Choice Award by National Research Corporation

PITTSBURGH, October 18, 2000 — University of Pittsburgh Medical Center’s UPMC Presbyterian Hospital has been named a 2000 Consumer Choice Award winner by the National Research Corporation. It is the second year in a row that the hospital has been named to the top list.

The award placed UPMC Presbyterian among the nation's top 122 hospitals consumers chose as having the highest quality and image in 103 metropolitan areas throughout the United States.

Each year the National Research Corporation, which performs health care performance measurements, honors the U.S. hospitals most preferred by consumers for overall health care services. The award is based on a national survey of more than 160,000 households.

According to the National Research Corporation, the consumer assessment is the most comprehensive in the industry by taking into account, physician and hospital satisfaction assessments, hospital image and preference ratings, health plan, health status and chronic condition profiles and consumer trust and confidence in health care.

The winners of the award will be announced in the October 23 issue of Modern Healthcare Magazine.
