Conemaugh Health System Joins UPMC Health Plan's Network
PITTSBURGH (August 2, 2005) — UPMC Health Plan and Conemaugh Health System have reached an agreement that adds the system's five hospitals in Cambria and Somerset counties to the Health Plan's growing network of contracted facilities and physicians.
Beginning August 1, 2005, Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown, Memorial Downtown (formerly Lee Hospital) in Johnstown, Miners Medical Center in Hastings, Meyersdale Medical Center in Meyersdale, and Windber Medical Center in Windber became participating providers for all UPMC Health Plan commercial products, as well as for UPMC for Life (Medicare HMO and PPO) and UPMC for You (Medicaid HMO).
"The Health Plan's agreement with Conemaugh Health System is very good news for UPMC Health Plan members and member prospects who live in Cambria, Bedford, Blair, and Somerset counties," said Diane P. UPMC Health Plan's nearly 435,000 members are served by some 6,800 physicians at 81 hospitals throughout 28 western Pennsylvania counties. "We are pleased to extend the services of the Conemaugh Health System to patients enrolled in UPMC Health Plan," said Ed DePasquale, Chief Financial Officer of Conemaugh Health System. "We believe the breadth and depth of our clinical programs will allow the patients of the region to receive high-quality care close to home."
Memorial Medical Center, a community and regional referral hospital known for clinical excellence and patient satisfaction, has been recognized as one of the top-100 hospitals in the United States in both orthopedics and open-heart surgery. In addition to a complete range of community services, Memorial offers highly specialized services, including a regional trauma center, high-risk obstetrical care, a regional intensive care nursery and centers for heart care, vascular disease, neuroscience, and minimally invasive surgery.
Memorial Downtown, the former Lee Regional Hospital, is a 244-bed facility located in downtown Johnstown. The hospital specializes in personalized care. Miners Medical Center is the only health care provider located in rural northern Cambria County. The hospital specializes in outstanding family care and primary care.
Meyersdale Medical Center is a state-designated critical access hospital that serves a remote and rugged geographic area in southern Somerset County. Windber Medical Center, located in Somerset County, is dedicated to patient-centered innovations in health care delivery that focus on mind, body, and spirit. Windber Medical Center operates the Joyce Murtha Breast Care Center in conjunction with the Walter Reed Army Medical Center.
Conemaugh Health System offers a continuum of care and highly specialized services, including the Regional Heartcare Network, Regional Vascular Center, Regional Cancer Network, Regional Intensive Care Nursery, Regional Trauma Center, and the John P. Murtha Neuroscience and Pain Institute. It also offers high-risk obstetrical care, minimally invasive surgery, and centers for breast care and cancer research.
