UPMC Health Plan Recognized For Commitment To Employee Development

First Toastmasters International Awards Given in the Region

PITTSBURGH (January 9, 2008) — For the first time in Pittsburgh, Toastmasters International will present the Toastmasters Corporate Sponsor Appreciation Award. The International Director of Toastmasters, Gary Mull, is presenting the award to UPMC Health Plan for “Creating Value and Enhancing Employee Engagement Through Continuing Support of the Toastmasters Communication and Leadership Program.” The presentation will take place on Friday, January 11, at 10 a.m. in the Health Plan’s offices.

“This award honors UPMC Health Plan’s commitment to employee development,” said Mr. Mull. “We applaud the success of the Health Plan’s 28 employees who are currently working to improve their communication skills through Toastmasters. We welcome the opportunity to assist other corporations initiate clubs.”

Coordinated through UPMC Health Plan’s Training and Development Department, the Toastmasters club meets weekly to develop public speaking and leadership skills in a friendly, comfortable environment. Each meeting gives members an opportunity to give impromptu speeches, present prepared speeches, conduct meetings, and offer constructive evaluation.

“We are dedicated to providing professional development opportunities to our employees, and we are thrilled that Toastmasters International is honoring our commitment through the Appreciation Award,” said Diane P. Holder, President of UPMC Health Plan. “We congratulate the current members of the Toastmasters club and support the future involvement of our employees in this superior program.”
