Leading Pitt Experts in Geriatrics and Healthy Aging Present at International Meeting of the Gerontological Society of America

Saturday, Nov. 20, 2:30 p.m. – Brain Health and Plasticity in Aging
Caterina Rosano, M.D., Ph.D., is renowned for her expertise in the areas of cognitive functioning in older adults, and is an associate professor of epidemiology at the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health (GSPH) and Pitt’s Center for Aging and Population Health. She will discuss an effort to identify biomarkers of brain reserve, which might reflect an individual’s ability to sustain higher cognitive functioning with aging.
Sunday, Nov. 21, 8 a.m. – Combining Caregiving and Work
Richard Schulz, Ph.D., is a nationally recognized expert in social-psychological aspects of aging, and a professor of psychiatry and director of the University Center for Social and Urban Research at the University of Pittsburgh. This symposium will discuss the needs of working caregivers and the impact and effectiveness of workplace policies to address such needs.
Monday, Nov. 22, 12 p.m. – Healthy Aging Within and Across Systems
Anne B. Newman, M.D., M.P.H., is an internationally known expert in aging and public health and chair of the Department of Epidemiology at GSPH. She will present a symposium evaluating the utility of individual and combinations of physiologic measures to accurately reflect healthy aging.
By developing, coordinating and enhancing aging-related clinical services and research, the University of Pittsburgh and UPMC are able to devote more resources to the field of aging than nearly any other academic medical center in the country.
