Pitt School of Dental Medicine’s 11th Annual Dean’s Scholarship Ball Scheduled

PITTSBURGH, March 16 – The University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine’s 11th annual Dean’s Scholarship Ball is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., Saturday, April 2, at the Senator John Heinz History Center, 1212 Smallman St., Strip District.

Proceeds from this black-tie fundraiser provide tuition support to deserving dental students. The Ball was initiated in 2001 by Thomas W. Braun, D.M.D., Ph.D., dean of the School of Dental Medicine. In consultation with a scholarship advisory committee, the dean selects outstanding students for this prestigious award.

“This is a fun annual event that allows us to celebrate the accomplishments of our alumni as well as raise money to help our students,” said Dr. Braun.

Sponsors of the 2011 Scholarship Ball include Highmark, United Concordia, UPMC, Eastern Dentists Insurance Company and PNC.

Pittsburgh Pirates broadcaster and former Pirates pitcher Steve Blass will serve as this year’s special guest and speaker.

The scholarship recipients this year are members of the School of Dental Medicine’s incoming class of 2015. Richard W. Craven IV and Gregory L. Sencak both completed undergraduate degrees at the University of Pittsburgh.

Distinguished Alumni Awards also will be presented to Col. Priscilla Hamilton, D.M.D.; Judge Donald Machen, D.M.D., M.D.S.; and Michele Darby, B.S.D.H., M.S.

The Award of Appreciation will be presented to Dr. R. Donald Hoffman, D.M.D., M.Ed., Ph.D., associate dean for education and curriculum, University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine.

The event is open to the public. Tickets are available for $200 per person and must be purchased by March 21. For more information, call (412) 648-8910 or e-mail
