On National Healthcare Decisions Day, UPMC Hosts ‘Day of Conversation’ to Talk About Advance Care Planning

WHAT: UPMC is hosting a Day of Conversation to discuss the often difficult subject of advance care planning, which involves making decisions about the type of medical care you would want, and whom you would want to make decisions for you, if you became unable to speak for yourself.

WHO: Speakers include former Pittsburgh first lady Judy O’Connor; Jim Towey, former White House official and founder of the Five Wishes advance care directive; and Robert Arnold, M.D., chief, palliative care and medical ethics, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.

WHEN: Saturday, April 16. Registration and breakfast begin at 8:15 a.m. Program runs from 9 a.m. to noon.

WHERE: Herberman Conference Center at the UPMC Cancer Pavilion, UPMC Shadyside, 5150 Centre Ave., 2nd Floor, Pittsburgh, PA 15232

WHY: Advance care planning is a way to provide peace of mind to yourself and your loved ones. The event is free and open to the public and will provide information about advance directives and how to start a conversation with your loved ones. At the end of the session, assistance will be available if you would like to complete an advance directive.
