Media Tour of Newly Expanded UPMC Sports Medicine Concussion Program 

WHAT: A hands-on, media-only tour of the new second floor – 3,500 square feet, nine examination rooms for a multi-specialty staff of 24 – devoted solely to assessing, treating, managing and researching all aspects of sports-related concussion

WHO: Michael “Micky” Collins, Ph.D., director of the 12-year-old, first-of-its-kind program; other program clinicians and researchers; and patients

WHEN: 1:30 – 2:30 p.m., Thursday, April 12, 2012

  • Opportunity to shoot and tour the new facilities where UPMC sees most of its 13,000 concussion patients each year
  • Introduction to the first-of-its-kind under one roof, multi-disciplinary approach to concussion management
  • Chance to see a patient undergoing vestibular, exertion and medicine therapies, clinical examination and more –- potential b-roll/file art for future concussion stories
  • Opportunity to interview the experts whose research and best-practices are followed and mirrored the world over, as well as patients who have benefited from the program’s expertise
