Pitt Hosts Latin American Fair to Promote Healthy Living

WHAT: La Feria Pittsburgh, Latino Health and Information Fair. La Feria will feature free health screenings, informational booths, food, music and children’s activities. The exhibitors will include local social service organizations, employers and business entrepreneurs with an interest in providing services to members of the Spanish-speaking community who may otherwise face language or cultural barriers.
  • La Feria Pittsburgh
  • University of Pittsburgh’s Graduate School of Public Health Department of Behavioral and Community Health Sciences Center for Health Equity
  • Pitt’s Center for Latin American Studies
WHEN: 12 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 22

WHERE: William Pitt Union, 4200 Fifth Ave., Oakland

WHY: About one-third of the 23,000 Latin Americans in Allegheny County are uninsured or underinsured. Lack of health insurance, language barriers and lack of knowledge about existing health services, put this population at greater risk for health problems. The fair strives to create a sense of community among local Latinos, enhance their ties with service providers and small businesses, and provide access to valuable information.
