UPMC’s Weatherwood Manor Leads the Way in Assisted Living Licensing

PITTSBURGH, March 21 -–  Weatherwood Manor, a part of UPMC Senior Communities located  in Greensburg, is one of the area’s first senior living residences to obtain an assisted living license and distinguishes itself as a leader in providing the highest quality of care possible for older adults.
Obtaining an Assisted Living Facility license from the PA Department of Public Welfare indicates that the facility demonstrates a resident-centered atmosphere of care and encourages resident and family participation in making informed care management decisions.  Additionally, the license validates that UPMC’s Weatherwood Manor meets the facility design requirements for each resident as dictated by the license, guaranteeing that each resident has adequate space and support requirements.
Assisted living facilities differ from personal care homes in their concept, construction, care and choice.  Assisted living residences embody the concept of allowing a resident to age in place by bringing services to the seniors rather than moving them to another facility as their care needs change  Assisted living residences are  modeled  to allow privacy and maximum independence.  The level of care provided is distinguishable from a personal care home in that they may provide services that would otherwise be provided in a licensed nursing care facility including supplemental health care services.  Assisted living allows residents more opportunities to exercise decision-making and choice.  UPMC Senior Communities’ Weatherwood Manor qualifies with the new licensure to provide these expanded services.
“UPMC Senior Communities is proud to recognize Weatherwood Manor as one of the first state-licensed Assisted Living Facilities,” said Deborah Brodine, president, UPMC Senior Communities. “Three other UPMC assisted living facilities, Cumberland Crossing Manor in McCandless, Seneca Manor in Penn Hills, and Strabane Woods in Washington are currently undergoing the licensing process, which highlights our commitment to excellence in assisted living and senior living.”
