UPMC CIO Dan Drawbaugh Leaves After 18 Years of Leading Acclaimed Technology Team

PITTSBURGH, Aug. 25, 2014 – After 30 years of service to UPMC, Chief Information Officer and Executive Vice President Dan Drawbaugh has decided to step down to pursue other professional interests. Ed McCallister, presently senior vice president, Enterprise Applications & Business Services, Information Services Division, will serve as interim CIO. 

During Mr. Drawbaugh’s 18 years as CIO, UPMC has been recognized nationally and internationally for its transformative approaches to using sophisticated information technologies to enhance patient care and safety.  An early user of electronic health records, UPMC has invested more than $1 billion in EHRs and other technologies over the past five years. 

UPMC has been named a “Most Wired” hospital for 16 consecutive years by Hospitals & Health Networks and in 2013 was ranked No. 1 by InformationWeek as the most innovative user of technology across all industries.
