​UPMC Program to Help Set Students on the Road to Health Care Careers

WHAT: UPMC Center for Engagement and Inclusion’s Next Steps Bridges to Health Care Careers Program for students in 10th through 12th grades
WHY: This program is designed to provide high school students information on how to pursue health care careers upon graduation, to build a pipeline from high school to the workplace and/or college/technical school.
In addition to the summit, students will participate in various activities from January to May 2014. 10th grade students will focus on career awareness, 11th graders will concentrate on how to obtain a career goal, and seniors will be equipped with ways to prepare for their career. 
WHEN: 10:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Friday, Jan. 31
WHERE: Herberman Conference Center (located inside of UPMC Shadyside Hospital), 5150 Centre Ave., 2nd Floor, Pittsburgh, PA 15232

KEYNOTE SPEAKER: Paula K. Davis, MA, assistant vice chancellor for Health Sciences Diversity at the University of Pittsburgh
A panel discussion by representatives from UPMC, the University of Pittsburgh, Community College of Allegheny County and the Kaplan Career Institute, will provide information about unique programs their institutions offer. Students will then engage with the panelists in a Q&A session and have the opportunity to interact with professionals representing health care careers, including laboratory, physical therapy, nursing, imaging and human resources.
