UPMC Mercy Burn Center and Pittsburgh Bureau of Police Bomb Squad Stress Fireworks Safety and Summer Grilling Precautions

WHAT: Interviews and safety demonstrations of fireworks, gas grill and campfire risks
WHY: Each year, UPMC Mercy Burn Center sees an increase in serious injuries resulting in the loss of vision or limbs, specifically fingers and hands, related to fireworks usage. As part of an ongoing effort to discourage the use of fireworks and sparklers, the burn center team will once again provide glow sticks to local area EMS facilities for distribution. Community members are encouraged to contact their local EMS department for availability.
