Joint Commission Recognizes Six UPMC Hospitals as Top Performers

PITTSBURGH, Nov. 20, 2015- Six UPMC hospitals have been recognized in The Joint Commission’s Top Performer on Key Quality Measures program, which identifies hospitals that achieve excellence on certain measures of evidence-based care.
Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC, UPMC Bedford Memorial, UPMC East, UPMC Hamot, UPMC McKeesport and UPMC Mercy were honored for their performance during the 2014 calendar year—with UPMC McKeesport receiving this recognition in each of the five years that the list has been published, one of only three hospitals in Pennsylvania to do so. 
As the leading accreditor of health care organizations in America, The Joint Commission has recognized these facilities for their commitment to assuring that evidence-based interventions are delivered to patients in a timely and accurate manner.
Ratings for the Top Performer designations are based on the aggregation of 49 accountability measures for 12 conditions.  UPMC hospitals were recognized in the following areas:
• Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC- pneumonia, surgical care, immunization, perinatal care
• UPMC Bedford Memorial- pneumonia, surgical care, immunization, perinatal care
• UPMC East- heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, surgical care, stroke, immunization
• UPMC Hamot- heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, surgical care, immunization, perinatal care
• UPMC McKeesport- heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, surgical care, stroke, immunization
• UPMC Mercy- heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, surgical care, immunization, perinatal care
