Patient and Visitor Frequently Asked Questions About Flu

You may have questions about flu season or the flu shot. Below you will find answers to some frequently asked questions. If you do not see your questions below, please ask your doctor.

Where Can I Get My Flu Shot This Year?

You can ask for a flu shot at:

  • Your primary care doctor’s office.
  • A UPMC Urgent Care facility.
  • And some specialty doctor’s offices, expanded care offices, after-hour clinics, and pharmacies.

When Can I Get a Flu Shot?

Flu shots are now available at the UPMC locations listed above.

Why Are Some Staff Wearing Masks Inside the Hospital?

Our patient care staff are required to get a flu shot each year. Staff members who have not yet received their flu shot will wear a mask while caring for you during flu season. We care about you and your safety.

Should I Get a Flu Shot if I'm Pregnant?

Yes, UPMC experts say that you should get a flu shot during your pregnancy.

  • It is safe to get the flu shot at any point of your pregnancy.
  • The shot will help keep you and your baby (6 months of age or younger) safe from the flu.
  • You should not receive the nasal spray vaccine during your pregnancy. UPMC is not offering the nasal spray vaccine this year.
