Risks of Untreated Swallowing Disorders

If dysphagia — the medical term for swallowing issues — goes untreated, it may lead to severe problems such as:

• Aspiration pneumonia — an infection that may result from food or liquid entering the lungs
• Chronic bronchitis
• Dehydration
• Malnutrition
• Pulmonary fibrosis
