Milestones in Our History

1913

  • Carlisle Hospital is chartered.

1916

  • Carlisle Hospital opens its doors to patients on Parker Street with 60 beds. In its first year, Carlisle Hospital records 350 operations, 38 births, and an average of 10 patients per day.

1933

  • A third floor is added, increasing capacity to 75 beds.

1962

  • A hospital addition is dedicated, expanding capacity to 200 beds.

1969

  • The ER opens with dedicated ER physicians.

1998

  • Carlisle Hospital expands from its original location on Parker Street to a 25-acre campus off of Walnut Bottom Road.

2001

  • The hospital is purchased by Health Management Associates, on the condition that they build a new 150-bed hospital within five years.

2017

  • Carlisle Hospital becomes part of PinnacleHealth. PinnacleHealth becomes part of UPMC health system. Carlisle Hospital becomes UPMC Carlisle.
