WHAT: The University of Pittsburgh and UPMC will host a media briefing to discuss their collaboration with the National Institute of Health to launch open enrollment for the All of Us Pennsylvania Research Program, part of the national All of Us Research Program, which is an effort to eliminate ‘one-size-fits-all’ medicine. Experts will discuss precision medicine, the impact it can have on the future of health care, how to participate, and issues involving precision medicine data.
Volunteers who participate in the program share health and lifestyle information through online surveys and electronic health records, reflecting the makeup of the American population. With the goal of enrolling 1 million participants nationwide who provide health information, this program will become the largest, most diverse resource of its kind.
WHY: Precision medicine is an essential approach to disease treatment, especially in underrepresented populations. By partnering with 1 million diverse people who share information about themselves over many years, the data collected by the All of Us Research Program will enable researchers and clinicians to more precisely prevent and treat a wide variety of health conditions.
