Crisis Support for Family and Friends

If your loved one lives in Allegheny County, they have access to resolve Crisis Services.

Often, friends and family members have a hard time knowing what to do when someone is in need.

Perhaps you've tried to help and your loved one told you “no.” Or, maybe you've tried to take on the problems yourself, but you feel stuck or too involved.

A family member or friend may benefit from your reaching out on their behalf when he or she:

  • Needs more than moral support.
  • Is having a hard time recovering from a crisis.
  • Feels anxious, overwhelmed, or depressed.

If you're unsure what to do, we're here to offer support and guidance.

We provide confidentiality to the extent of the law. And we work to arrange any level of care you or your loved ones may need.

Support Services We Offer

When working with families of those in crisis, we can offer the following:

  • A mobile unit can provide a wellness checkup for someone who’s having a hard time and isn't willing reach out for help.
  • Tips on how you can support someone in crisis.
  • Ways to know if your loved one needs more advanced care.
  • Guidance on staying within the proper boundaries with someone who is in crisis.
  • How to connect your friend or family member to the crisis services they need.
  • How to seek help for yourself in being a more supportive friend or family member.
  • Provide a listening ear to support you.

If you have a friend or loved one who has a psychiatric diagnosis, our short-term residential program may be good for them. The program helps stabilize the client without needing to go to the hospital for crisis care.

You can also call us if you need information on where to find the mental health services that your loved one needs.
