Dermaplaning

UPMC Content 3

Dermaplaning is a slightly deeper method of skin resurfacing than microdermabrasion. Dermaplaning is a popular noninvasive procedure for the removal of dead skin cells and fine facial hair, and it is safe for most patients with conditions such as rosacea or sensitive skin.

The treatment also can remove some skin flaws, such as blemishes and sun damage, and allow skin care products to penetrate the lower layers of your skin and be more effective.

Dermaplaning can be used to treat or reduce:

  • Fine Lines and Wrinkles
  • Congested Pores
  • Milia

Your provider will abrade the skin using a sterile blade and gentle strokes. Each treatment typically takes about 30 minutes, and multiple treatments are normally recommended. For some patients, a maintenance regimen is recommended at times in order to maximize improvement.

Dermaplaning is suitable for all skin types. No anesthesia is required because pain and discomfort are minimal. No recovery time is necessary.
