Head and Neck Cancer Care at UPMC

Cancer treatment can be overwhelming for patients and their families. At UPMC, the main goal of our head and neck cancer experts is to provide outstanding patient care.

If you find any abnormalities — such as lumps or sores — on the head or neck, contact us. Early detection greatly increases treatment success rates.

We urge you to play an active role in your head and neck cancer diagnosis and treatment.

There are steps you can take to help reduce the risk of developing head and neck cancers. Being well informed about cancer prevention and risk factors can be the first steps to improving your health.

We also offer patient support services to help ease stress and create the most comfortable environment possible.

Types of Head and Neck Tumors We Treat

Doctors in the UPMC Division of Head and Neck Cancer can treat any tumor located between the head and neck. It's vital to have tumors tested to determine if they are malignant (cancerous) or benign (noncancerous).

The following are examples of common malignant and benign tumors we treat:

  • Salivary tumors
  • Parathyroid tumors
  • Thyroid tumors
  • Parotid and submandibular gland tumors
  • Minor salivary gland tumors
  • Skin cancer
  • Squamous cell cancer (larynx and tongue)
