As a result, Heritage Place patients reap the combined benefits of outstanding physical, occupational, speech, and restorative therapies as physicians work to develop new treatments that are shared across UPMC.

The 25-bed, short-stay rehabilitation unit provides convenient access to the well-equipped, spacious therapy area.

On-site rehabilitation programs include:

  • Occupational therapy
  • Speech therapy
  • Restorative nursing, including:
    • Exercise
    • Walking
    • Socialization
    • Activities of daily living

Transitional Rehabilitation Unit

The Transitional Rehab Unit (TRU) at Heritag Place is a short stay rehabilitation unit designed to meet the needs of patients being discharge from the hospital, acute care setting, or doctor’s office. These patients require additional therapy before returning home or progressing to an inpatient rehabilitation facility.

Through its partnership with the UPMC Centers for Rehab Services (CRS), the UPMC Rehabilitation Institute, and the Road to Rehab Program, the TRU provides a higher level of care than traditional skilled nursing rehabilitation facilities. CRS is a premier provider of rehabilitation services utilized across UPMC in the acute care hospitals, the UPMC Rehabilitation Institute and the UPMC skilled nursing facilities. Under the direction of a board certified physiatrist, CRS will administer, monitor, and evaluate individualized therapy treatment plans with the following goals in mind.

  • To promote a safe and timely transition for short term rehab patients as they progress to the next level of rehabilitation
  • To provide individual patient focused rehabilitation services
  • To promote quality care and provide continuity of treatment plans
  • To promote appropriate utilization of benefits
