Nestled in the heart of Penn Hills, the scenic campus setting at Seneca Place, a part of UPMC Senior Communities, warmly greets residents and families. Neatly landscaped yards and colorful pathways lead into this spacious and brightly lit skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility.

Seneca Place provides a variety of programs that meet the needs of patients who no longer require hospital care but do need 24-hour skilled nursing and rehabilitation care and other personal health care services. UPMC’s established reputation for medical excellence is demonstrated every day at this facility.

A professional team including certified nurse practitioners, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, and certified nursing assistants work cooperatively to enhance quality of life and return residents to their highest level of independent functioning. Caring, dedicated staff provide comprehensive skilled nursing and rehabilitation services that address the physical, psychological, and social needs of each resident.

Seneca Place is conveniently located minutes away from the Parkway East and Route 22 in Monroeville. Residents have the advantage of immediate access to high-quality medical services from the neighboring Seneca assisted living and independent living units.

Rehabilitation Services

Rehabilitation services are an integral part of the complete care program available to residents at Seneca Place. On-site rehabilitation programs include:

  • Physical therapy
  • Occupational therapy
  • Speech therapy
  • Restorative nursing, including:
    • Exercise
    • Walking
    • Socialization
    • Activities of daily living
    • Splinting programs

Transitional Rehabilitation

The newly renovated Transitional Rehabilitation Unit (TRU) at Seneca Place provides short stay rehabilitation designed to meet the needs of patients being discharged from the hospital but who are not quite ready to return home.

Board-certified physicians and specialty-trained therapists help patients recover from surgery, accidents, and illness, and return home more quickly.

The TRU consists of 16 private rooms and 17 semi-private rooms.

As part of the UPMC Rehabilitation Institute​, the TRU at Seneca Place:

  • Promotes a safe and timely transition for short term rehab patients as they progress towards their discharge home
  • Provides individual patient focused rehabilitation services
  • Promotes quality care and provides continuity of treatment plans
  • Promotes appropriate utilization of patients’ health care benefits
