Pittsburgh Area Center for Treatment of HIV (PACT)

HIV Primary and Specialty Care

PACT — part of the UPMC Center for Care of Infectious Diseases — and a Ryan White Center for Excellence —is comprised of a dedicated team of doctors, nurses, and other health care professionals with expertise in HIV. The center provides complete care to more than 1,700 persons 18+ years of age living with HIV.

Our Services

PACT provides comprehensive HIV primary and specialty care, HIV treatment and social support services for persons with HIV, including:

  • Pre-exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP)
  • Post-exposure Prophylaxis (nPeP)
  • Medical case management
  • Nutrition consults
  • Clinical trials for HIV infection
  • Pharmacy services.
  • Anal health care
  • Hormonal therapy
  • Hepatitis C co-infection care
  • Gynecologic care
  • Mental health care
  • Pain management.
  • Support groups
  • Free and confidential partner testing
  • Treatment for alcohol/opioid abuse
  • Telehealth for patients in outlying regions

PACT providers can rapidly see patients newly diagnosed with HIV as well as patients previously lost to care that need to reconnect to treatment.

Pregnant women with HIV should contact us to get an immediate appointment. Call 412-647-1307 during regular business hours (8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday – Friday). After business hours, patients should contact the physician on call 412-647-7228.

HIV Telemedicine Services

HIV-related telemedicine services can be accessed through video visits arranged on a free UPMC patient portal or by making an appointment at one of three outpatient telemedicine clinics. At these clinics, people with HIV are seen by a physician located in Pittsburgh through an audio-video interface and with the help of a trained nurse tele-presenter.

HIV Clinical Trial and Research Options

Along with treatment and support, PACT conducts clinical trials of antiretrovirals for therapy and prevention of HIV-1 infection.

The University of Pittsburgh Clinical Trial Evaluation Unit (PTEU) also offers trials for treatment of HIV infection and related illnesses. For more details or to make an appointment with PTEU, call 412-647-8125 or 1-888-396-7838.
