For more than 70 years, through research and clinical trials, our team has pioneered cutting-edge techniques to improve our patients’ quality of life. From the nation’s first double-hand transplant, to the internationally recognized Life After Weight Loss program that pairs body contouring surgery with lifestyle coaching, our department is consistently on the front lines of advancements in plastic and reconstructive surgery. 

Our department also is one of the region’s leading centers in restorative medicine. The Center for Innovation in Restorative Medicine​ utilizes regenerative techniques based on cellular therapy and tissue engineering to help patients who face amputation or disfigurement—including women seeking breast reconstruction after mastectomies, burn survivors, and injured war veterans.
