State-of-the-art Technology at UPMC Passavant’s New Patient Pavilion 

The new patient pavilion features:

  • Spacious, private rooms that have the capacity for a family member to stay with you after your surgery
  • Specially trained nurses and staff to educate and care for you during your hospital stay
  • Special patient unit that is dedicated to the treatment of neurosurgical and spine patients
  • Multidisciplinary team, including nurses, physical and occupational therapists, and social workers for postoperative care and optimal discharge planning for patients and their family

In addition to a comprehensive treatment program, patients of the Spine Center at UPMC Passavant also have access to the latest medical technology, including:

  • Advanced diagnostic testing
  • Therapeutic and diagnostic interventional injections
  • Implantable devices

UPMC Passavant’s new, seven-story patient pavilion houses a dedicated spine care unit that includes spacious, private rooms and neurosurgical operative suites.

These specially equipped, neurosurgical operative suites feature:

  • Intraoperative imaging, which allows 3-D visualization in real time for better anatomical views
  • State-of-the-art microscopes that enable surgeons to make smaller incisions and identify pathology with less muscle dissection
  • Skilled surgeons who perform novel, minimally invasive approaches to spine surgery, including microdiscectomy and decompression procedures
  • High-definition multiple screens that allow the surgeon to see the x-ray and other diagnostic studies from different angles without leaving the operating table
  • Two-way communication by voice and pictures that allows the surgeon at UPMC Passavant to communicate with other surgeons and health care providers to exchange opinions and for teaching and training purposes
  • Custom-designed spine operating rooms at UPMC Passavant are one of the very few in the country which are equipped with spine map 3-D software, which navigates spinal anatomy in a matter of seconds
