Meet Cindy

Cindy F., a resident of Potter County, started feeling pressure in her bladder many years ago. She found herself on antibiotics all the time. “They would help for a little, and then as soon as I would go off them, I was right back where I started. I had bladder leakage all the time or I had to wear pads. I just felt like I was too young for all of that. But it's my understanding that women in their 40s have these issues,” said Cindy.

After the reoccurring bladder infections and pressure, Cindy was referred to Kristine Ball, a certified nurse midwife at UPMC Magee-Womens at UPMC Cole, who cares for women with various women’s health conditions.

It turned out that Cindy has a bladder prolapse, a pelvic floor disorder in women. It happens when the muscles and tissues that support the pelvic organs become weak and loose. “It started from pushing in labor and all of that. It's hard on your bladder. Over the years of ignoring it, it got worse and worse. So, you need to attend to it as soon as you can,” she shared.

To treat the issue, Cindy knew she didn’t want surgery. She discussed with Kristy what treatment options are available. Based on her active lifestyle and support from her husband, Cliff, she moved forward with a vaginal pessary, a removable device placed into the vagina.

“It holds your bladder up, and I understand a lot of women have them. I just felt that was the best way for me to go. Cliff and I are outdoors people, and we love being outside. It can be taken out, cleaned, and put back in with no problems,” said Cindy.

Cindy and Cliff are incredibly thankful for Kristy and the team. “The women here are very nice, very courteous, and they understand all the things that I've gone through because they work with other women that have these issues. I just feel that they're very comfortable, and I'm very comfortable with them,” she said.

Meet Ashley

Ashley, now a mom of four children, gave birth to Jonah at The Birthplace at UPMC Wellsboro in April 2025. As a new resident to the area, Ashley continued her care with UPMC Magee-Womens at UPMC Wellsboro Office of Obstetrics and Gynecology and The Birthplace.

“We were pleased to find that UPMC Magee-Womens was also located in Wellsboro. It made the shift a lot smoother. I also appreciated that UPMC Wellsboro wasn’t a large facility, as it allowed for more personalized attention. All the personnel, including the front desk ladies, nurses, and physicians, are incredibly kind. I had to bring my other kids along to my appointments, and they were helpful in keeping them entertained. I also found it beneficial to have my OB office connected to the hospital, as it simplified the process of getting lab tests and other examinations like ultrasounds and nonstress tests done with minimal waiting time. Additionally, I was diagnosed with gestational hypertension during the later stages of my second trimester, which categorized me as high risk, allowing my doctor to adjust my c-section date to 38 weeks. Overall, my needs were adequately addressed without causing any stress.”
