Immunizations for Children and Adolescents at the Department of Family Medicine

UPMC Content 3

Vaccines are medicines that help train your body to fight of infections. Immunizations (or vaccinations) are the shots that deliver these medicines to your body.

Vaccines are one of the most important medicines ever invented for keeping people healthy.

Most vaccines are given to children as they are growing and some help protect them from infections their whole lives.

Some vaccines or immunizations need to be repeated at regular intervals over the course of your life, or — like the flu vaccine — every year.

Staying Up to Date on Immunizations

Family medicine doctors at UPMC's Department of Family Medicine provide immunizations every day in the office.

If you or one of your children needs a vaccine, or if you're not sure, come see us at one of our family medicine health clinics where we can make sure you're up to date.
