“Continuing to enhance the diversity of our workforce and vendor pool is one of UPMC’s top institutional priorities, and the appointment of a chief diversity officer is an important part of our commitment to inclusiveness,” said Jeffrey A. Romoff, president and CEO of UPMC. “An executive with the talent and experience of Candi Castleberry Singleton will strengthen our diversity strategy and help us build an economic future for the Pittsburgh region that benefits all its citizens.”
Castleberry Singleton will develop and implement UPMC’s diversity and inclusion strategy, which includes recruitment and retention, building an inclusive environment, training and cultural competency and improved community partnerships.

Castleberry Singleton will report to Gregory Peaslee, senior vice president and chief human resources and administrative services officer.
“We are delighted to welcome Candi to the UPMC family,” said Esther Bush, president of the Urban League of Pittsburgh and chairman of the diversity committee of UPMC’s board of directors. “She is a well-respected leader in the diversity field, with a wealth of experience in managing successful, award-winning diversity strategies at major companies such as Motorola and Sun Microsystems. We expect that she will quickly make significant contributions to UPMC’s diversity programs across the board, especially in collaboration with the great team at the UPMC Office of Diversity.”
Before joining UPMC, Castleberry Singleton was vice president for global inclusion at Motorola, where she led the company’s diversity councils and developed and implemented strategies designed to embed inclusive practices into the company’s day-to-day business practices.
