Cheryl Bernstein, MD

Dr. Cheryl Bernstein is a renowned, sought-after expert on fibromyalgia, headache, and postherpetic neuralgia, as well as cancer, musculoskeletal, and neuropathic pain, and has conducted research and lectured on these topics nationally and internationally. Since 2003, she has been an attending physician with UPMC Pain Medicine and a faculty member in the University of Pittsburgh Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine.

Dr. Bernstein received her MD from the University of Rochester and finished her residency in neurology at the University of Maryland. She completed pain medicine fellowships at Louisiana State University and UPMC, as well as a fellowship in ocular anesthesiology at Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins.

She is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, the American Academy of Pain Medicine, the American Headache Society, and the Women's Medical Network. Dr. Bernstein has authored or coauthored over 30 scholarly publications, including peer-reviewed papers and book chapters. She has been named to the Best Doctors in America® list every year since 2007.

Dr. Bernstein is active in clinical education and a teacher of medical students, residents, and fellows. She serves as Director of the UPMC Pain Medicine Fellowship’s 10 week-pain rehabilitation rotation as well as Site Director for UPMC Pain Medicine at Centre Commons for UPMC anesthesiology residents.
