David M. Farner is executive vice president and chief strategy and transformation officer at UPMC. In his current role, he also leads all corporate communications and marketing, strategic planning, payor contracting, and human resources.
 
For nearly 40 years – including serving on UPMC’s executive leadership team for the past 20 years – Farner has played an integral role in guiding UPMC through its growth and transformation from a single hospital to a $30-billion integrated health care provider and insurer. He has also led the expansion of UPMC’s clinical care services in Italy, Ireland, and Croatia along with the creation of UPMC’s innovative commercialization and venture capital arm.
 
Farner’s career began at Arthur Andersen & Company in 1985 prior to joining UPMC in 1986 as a financial analyst. He also serves on the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation Board of Directors.
